Every December, Apple reveals its choices for the best digital items from the past year. The list includes five categories: Apps, Music, Podcasts, TV and Movies, and Books. Below are the Winners for Apple’s Best of 2018.


According to Apple, Battle Royale styled games like Fortnite dominated gaming in 2018 while Self-Care styled apps saw a huge rise as well. Below are the results for each of categories in Apple’s Best of 2018:

iPhone App of the Year – Procreate Pocket – Procreate Pocket bills itself as “The most powerful sketching, painting and illustration app ever designed for iPhone.” The app costs $4.99 and is available here.

iPhone Game of the Year – Donut County – As strange as it may sound, in Donut County you play as an ever-expanding hole and you try to throw people into it. It’s much cuter than it sounds, and much more fun. Donut County costs $4.99 and is available here.

iPad App of the Year – Froggipedia – According to the App Store, “Froggipedia, is an engaging, interactive, powerful constructive learning Apple AR which helps explore and discover the unique life cycle and intricate anatomical details of a frog.” Froggipedia costs $3.99 and is available here.

iPad Game of the Year – Gorogoa – According to Apple, “Gorogoa is an elegant evolution of the puzzle genre, told through a beautifully hand-drawn story designed and illustrated by Jason Roberts.” Gorogoa costs $4.99 and is available here.

Mac App of the Year – Pixelmator Pro – Pixelmator Pro is a photo editing app. According to Apple, “Pixelmator Pro is an incredibly powerful, beautiful, and easy to use image editor designed exclusively for Mac.” Pixelmator Pro costs $29.99 and is available here.

Mac Game of the Year – The Gardens Between – According to Apple, “The Gardens Between is a single-player adventure-puzzle game about time, memory and friendship.” The Gardens Between costs $19.99 and is available here.

Apple TV App of the Year – Sweat – Sweat calls itself the #1 Bikini Body Workout App. Sweat is available here.

Apple TV Game of the Year – Alto’s Odyssey – Alto’s Odysseey is a game that allows players to explore a vast and beautiful desert. Alto’s Odyssey costs $4.99 and is available here.
