Almost nothing is guaranteed in this life. However, if you live in the present moment, stay true to the values you hold most dear, and spend time with the ones you love most, you will stand a much greater chance of living a life you will be happy with. Today Ignitia offers seven truths of life.
We Live the Lives We Create for Ourselves
Perhaps the greatest lesson anyone can learn is to take responsibility for their own life. No one is responsible for the life we live but us. If we are unhappy with our circumstances, the only person responsible for making those circumstance better is us. The sooner we take this lesson to heart, the sooner we will start to make steps toward living the life we truly want to live.
Our Self Worth Should Come From Within
When our self-worth is derived entire from how we feel we are measuring up to our own values, morals, and principles we can ensure our sense of self-worth is entirely within our own control. When we cede this control to the opinions of other people, we are no longer able to live according to our own moral compass. However, if we can stay centered in our own beliefs, and strive to achieve what we know to be right, we can take our opinion of ourselves and our destinies into our own hands.
Now Is All There Is
Nothing will change the past, and nothing guarantees is a future. All we are ever guaranteed is the now. So take advantage of it. And appreciate the good things you do have in this moment. Make peace with your past. And don’t worry so much about the future. If you can do this, you will have a much greater chance of enjoying the present moment you do have.
Busy Does Not Equal Productive
Too often the things that take up the most time are simply not moving us toward our highest goals. We may constantly feel like we’re working and getting things done, but if the works is not getting us closer to what we truly want it is not truly productive. We must then focus on our top priorities and make sure that as often as possible, our efforts are leading us to those top level goals.
Nothing Holds Us Back Like Fear
There is a saying that one of the worst fates a person can befall is to reach the end of their life and meet the person they could have been. At the end of our lives we will be more likely to regret the things we wished to do more than the things we did. Often the greatest factor holding us back from taking steps to do what we want most is fear. Do not let fear hold you back. Be bold. Take steps toward the things you really want in life.
Change is Inevitable
The constant state of the universe is a state of flux. The same idea applies to our own lives. Embrace this. By definition if we are growing, we are changing. And growth and improvement should always be our goals. While perfection may not be attainable, the pursuit of perfection is. And if done right, this pursuit can lead to excellence. So, anytime we find ourself stationary for too long, we should evaluate the merits of changing something in order to make sure we are still growing.
Life Is Short
The older we get the faster time moves. And sooner or later ten years will not seem like such a long time. Before we know it the decades add up and we are much farther in this life than we realized. This is not a bad thing. It is just reality. Life is short. So, use the time you do have well. We have the same number of hours in a day as their are for the most highly-achieving people alive. Find a way to accomplish more. And above all, if you want to live a happy life make sure to spend time with the people you love most.
